Elizabeth Berridge

Elizabeth Berridge, born on May 2, 1962, is a prominent American actress known for her captivating performances in both film and theatre. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Constanze Mozart in the acclaimed 1984 film *Amadeus*, which won multiple Academy Awards.

Berridge hails from New Rochelle, New York, where she was raised in a family that valued education and service; her father, George Berridge, was a lawyer, and her mother, Mary L. Berridge (née Robinson), worked as a social worker. The family later moved to Larchmont, New York, where Berridge discovered her passion for performance while attending Chatsworth Elementary School. To pursue her acting ambitions, she completed her high school education through an independent-study program at Mamaroneck High School.

In a twist of fate, Berridge was invited to audition for the role of Constanze Mozart after filming for *Amadeus* had already begun in Prague. Following the injury of the original actress, Meg Tilly, Berridge was flown to Prague along with another contender. After a week of auditions, she secured the role, reportedly due to the other actress being considered "too pretty" for the part of an innkeeper's daughter. Berridge spent six months in Prague alongside her co-stars to complete the filming, solidifying her place in cinematic history.
