Ina Balin

Ina Balin (November 12, 1937 – June 20, 1990) was a renowned American actress celebrated for her contributions to both Broadway and film. Born Ina Rosenberg in Brooklyn to a Jewish family, she began her artistic journey on television with an appearance on The Perry Como Show. Her foray into summer stock paved the way for her Broadway debut, and in 1959, she received the Theatre World Award for her role in A Majority of One, starring alongside legends Gertrude Berg and Sir Cedric Hardwicke.

That same year marked her entry into film with The Black Orchid, featuring Sophia Loren and Anthony Quinn. A year later, she earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance opposite Paul Newman in From the Terrace. Balin's filmography expanded to include notable works such as The Comancheros alongside John Wayne, The Patsy with Jerry Lewis, and the iconic Charro! with Elvis Presley.

In addition to her film achievements, Balin made numerous guest appearances on popular television series, including Bonanza and Magnum, P.I. Her humanitarian efforts were equally commendable; she toured Vietnam with the USO and played a pivotal role in the evacuation of orphans during the fall of Saigon, eventually adopting three children. Balin's life and experiences inspired character Ba Nee in the animated series Jem, reflecting her enduring influence beyond her acting career.
