George Leech
George Leech was a distinguished British film actor and stunt performer, renowned for his extensive contributions to the James Bond franchise, appearing in eleven films from 1962 to 1985.
Born in London, Leech's early life was marked by athletic prowess; he left school at the age of 14 and became a boxer, clinching the ABA National Championships as a welterweight at just 15. His journey in the entertainment industry began after he enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1943, leading to his first film role where he executed a stunt doubling for James Mason in the 1947 film Odd Man Out.
Leech’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the iconic James Bond series, where he often portrayed henchmen and performed daring stunts. His notable appearances include key roles in Dr. No (1962), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), and On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), where he advanced to the position of stunt arranger during the production of For Your Eyes Only (1981) and A View to a Kill (1985). Beyond Bond, he showcased his talents in several other films, including The Guns of Navarone, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Kelly's Heroes, The Eagle Has Landed, and Revenge of the Pink Panther.
In 1952, Leech married, and he had two daughters, one of whom, Wendy Leech, became a trailblazing female stunt performer. George Leech passed away in Cardiff in 2012 at the age of 90, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the world of film and stunts.
