1 title Acting Jun 11, 1895 Died: Feb 24, 1975 Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Empire [now Russia]

Nikolai Alexandrovich Bulganin (Russian: Никола́й Алекса́ндрович Булга́нин; born 11 June [O.S. 30 May] 1895 – 24 February 1975) was a prominent Soviet statesman who held significant roles in the government during the mid-20th century. As a key figure in the Soviet military, Bulganin served as Minister of Defense from 1953 to 1955, a period marked by the Cold War's intensifying geopolitical tensions. He was closely associated with Nikita Khrushchev and succeeded him as Premier of the Soviet Union from 1955 until 1958.

Bulganin's political career was shaped by his earlier military service in the Red Army and his tenure as a defense minister under Joseph Stalin. His leadership during the transition from Stalin's regime to Khrushchev's era reflected the shifting dynamics within Soviet politics. Under his administration, the Soviet Union navigated various domestic and international challenges, including the arms race and the de-Stalinization process initiated by Khrushchev.

Despite his influential positions, Bulganin's political career eventually waned, and he found himself sidelined in the evolving power structure of the Soviet leadership. He passed away on 24 February 1975, leaving behind a complex legacy intertwined with the history of the Soviet Union during a transformative period.
