Growing up in a family with a knack for entertainment—her father, Earl Dixon, owned a club named "Hillbilly Heaven"—she graduated from Groveton High School in 1975 and later attended The George Washington University.

Dixon's career began in the modeling industry, where she achieved significant recognition by winning the titles of Miss Virginia USA in 1976 and Miss Washington DC World in 1977. She gained widespread fame in the early 1980s for her role opposite Tom Hanks in the hit television comedy series "Bosom Buddies."

In 1983, she starred alongside Dan Aykroyd in the film "Doctor Detroit," which marked the beginning of their personal relationship; they married shortly thereafter. The couple collaborated again in the films "Spies Like Us" (1985) and "The Couch Trip" (1988). Over the years, Dixon has taken on various smaller roles in films, notably portraying the "Dreamwoman" in the cult classic "Wayne's World" (1992).

Dixon and Aykroyd are proud parents of three daughters: Danielle, Belle, and Stella. She also made a guest appearance in the beloved TV series "Moonlighting." Interestingly, the song "I Still Love You" by KISS was penned by Paul Stanley for Dixon, reflecting their past relationship.
