David Nykl

David Nykl, born on February 7, 1967, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, is a distinguished Czech Canadian actor recognized for his work in film, television, commercials, and theater. His family emigrated to Canada following the Soviet invasion of 1968, settling in Victoria, British Columbia, where his father worked as a structural engineer and his mother as a nurse.

Nykl pursued his education at the University of British Columbia, focusing on liberal arts, which laid the foundation for his dynamic acting career. He has made significant contributions to the performing arts in both Vancouver and Prague, showcasing his talent across numerous theater productions, films, and TV shows. In 1994, he co-founded the Misery Loves Company Theatre in Prague alongside Richard Toth and Ewan McLaren, further cementing his commitment to the theatrical arts.

He gained widespread recognition among science fiction enthusiasts for his portrayal of Dr. Radek Zelenka in the acclaimed series Stargate Atlantis. As a Czech scientist on the expedition to the mythical city of Atlantis, Nykl's character often served as a counterbalance to the other scientists, adding depth to the narrative.

Fluent in Czech, English, French, and Spanish, Nykl’s linguistic skills enhance his versatility as an actor. Notably, while his character Zelenka spoke English with a Czech accent, Nykl’s natural voice reflects his Canadian roots.
