Olivia Ruiz

1 title Acting Jan 01, 1980 Carcassonne, Aude, France

Olivia Ruiz, born in Carcassonne, is the daughter of musician Didier Blanc but adopted her grandmother’s surname, Ruiz. She gained widespread attention as a standout contestant on the inaugural French season of Star Academy in 2001, where she finished as a semi-finalist, losing to the eventual champion, Jenifer Bartoli. Despite this, in an interview with Europe 1, Ruiz expressed that she had no desire to win and aimed to carve out her own identity post-show, distancing herself from the Star Academy persona through a subsequent tour.

Her sophomore album, *La Femme Chocolat*, released in 2006, garnered significant acclaim, earning her the title of Female Artist of the Year at the 2007 Victoires de la Musique. The album was a commercial success, achieving diamond certification for over 750,000 sales in France and reaching the top of French charts as well as the top 50 in Walloon and Switzerland. Its popular singles, including "J'traine des pieds" and "La femme chocolat," received heavy rotation on French music channels.

Ruiz's third studio album, *Miss Météores*, showcased her lyrical talent, as she penned all the songs and collaborated with an array of artists such as Buck 65 and the indie band Noisettes. Released in 2009, it topped both the French and Walloon charts, with the single "Elle panique" peaking at number two on the Walloon chart. Olivia Ruiz is in a relationship with Mathias Malzieu, the frontman of the band Dionysos.
