Hailing from Vancouver, BC, Maria J. Cruz is a talented actress whose career began while she was completing her final year at the University of British Columbia's Theatre program. She landed her first professional role as "Tina" in 'Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding,' which holds the title of Vancouver’s longest-running stage production. Over the years, Maria has performed extensively on independent stages in both Vancouver and Toronto, including a notable stint at the renowned Second City. Her expertise shines in acerbic comedic roles and classical works, earning her critical acclaim for her performances in Restoration theatre.
After taking a brief hiatus at the turn of the millennium to pursue a Master's degree in Museum Studies, Maria returned to her passion for acting more than six years ago, expressing her commitment to "stay on the bus." She has enjoyed success with two recurring roles as a nanny, first in the 1999 NBC remake of 'Cold Feet' and more recently in Bravo TV's inaugural scripted series, 'Girlfriend's Guide to Divorce.'
In a testament to her versatility, Maria showcased her talents in a one-woman stage play performed in both Portuguese and English at the Azores International Fringe Festival. Currently, she is excited to step into the roles of creator, producer, and actress for SMAK!Productions' upcoming independent feature film, 'The Parties.'
