Hitoshi Ueki
Hitoshi Ueki (植木 等, Ueki Hitoshi), born on December 25, 1926, and passing on March 27, 2007, was a renowned Japanese figure known for his multifaceted talents as an actor, comedian, singer, and guitarist. Over the course of his career, he garnered six prestigious acting awards, solidifying his reputation in the entertainment industry.
Ueki rose to prominence as a member of the comic jazz ensemble The Crazy Cats, which was led by the charismatic Hajime Hana. His notable contributions to cinema included significant roles in the beloved Musekinin Otoko film series, as well as in the popular comedy-variety show Shabondama Holiday. He also featured prominently in the acclaimed prime-time series The Hangman, and made a lasting impact through his performance in the ten two-hour television installments of the Nagoya Yomeiri Monogatari series.
One of Ueki’s standout cinematic performances was in Akira Kurosawa's legendary jidaigeki film, Ran, where his talent was further recognized with a nomination for the Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
