Eva Mottley
Eva Mottley was a talented actress born in Barbados and raised in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Her journey into the world of acting began under difficult circumstances, following a 15-month prison sentence for LSD possession. Mottley is best remembered for her compelling portrayal of Bella O'Reilly in the acclaimed television series *Widows*. Unfortunately, she was unable to reprise her role in the sequel due to her allegations of racial and sexual abuse against the production team. Tragically, her life came to an abrupt end when she took her own life, succumbing to an overdose of barbiturates and alcohol after struggling with a cocaine addiction that had left her in significant debt.
In addition to her pivotal role in *Widows*, Mottley’s filmography includes appearances in *Scrubbers* and *Superman III*, as well as her memorable part as Corinne, the wife of Denzil, in the beloved sitcom *Only Fools and Horses*. Mottley was also known for her high-profile relationship with music icon David Bowie, which lasted two years.
Beyond her artistic endeavors, Mottley hailed from a prominent political family in Barbados. Her grandfather, Ernest Motley, was the inaugural mayor of Bridgetown, while her uncle, Elliott Motley, and cousin, Mia Mottley, have both made their mark in politics. Eva Mottley’s life, though marked by personal struggles, left an indelible imprint on the arts and her community.
