George Wang
George Wang, originally named Wang Yie, was a prominent Taiwanese actor and producer, born on November 12, 1918, in Dandong, Liaoning. His cinematic journey began in 1938 when he joined the Shanghai drama school affiliated with the China Film Studio. He made his film debut the following year in *Defending Our Homeland* (保家鄉). In 1949, he relocated to Taiwan, quickly establishing himself as a leading figure in the nascent Taiwanese film industry.
In the late 1950s, Wang moved to Italy, where he gained recognition as a versatile character actor in a variety of genre films, particularly in the realms of spy thrillers, adventure cinema, and Spaghetti Westerns. His proficiency in English allowed him to participate in several international projects, most notably in Nicholas Ray's *55 Days at Peking*.
In 1976, Wang returned to Hong Kong, where he partnered with his son Don to establish the Wang Film Company. Two years later, he returned to Taiwan, resuming his acting career. His performance in *The Coldest Winter in Peking* (皇天后土) earned him the prestigious Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1981. George Wang's contributions to cinema spanned decades and continents, leaving a lasting legacy in both Taiwanese and international film industries. He passed away on March 27, 2015.
