Steve Bannon
Stephen Kevin Bannon, born on November 27, 1953, is a prominent American media executive and political strategist known for his influential role in contemporary politics and media. He served as the chief strategist for President Donald Trump during the initial seven months of Trump's administration. Prior to this, Bannon held the position of executive chairman at Breitbart News, a platform recognized for its far-right commentary, and he was a board member of the now-defunct data analytics company, Cambridge Analytica.
Bannon's career has been marked by controversy, particularly after his arrest in August 2020 alongside three associates, where they faced charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering linked to the "We Build the Wall" initiative. The campaign, which aimed to fund a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, was alleged to have misappropriated donations. Bannon, who maintained his innocence, received a presidential pardon from Trump before the trial commenced.
In October 2021, he was held in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol insurrection. Following this, in July 2022, Bannon was convicted on two counts of contempt, facing significant potential penalties. On September 8, 2022, he was charged with state-level conspiracy and money laundering in New York, surrendering to authorities on the same day. Bannon's career continues to reflect his contentious and polarizing influence on American politics.
