Isamu Tanonaka
Isamu Tanonaka was a prominent Japanese voice actor hailing from Taitō, Tokyo, renowned for his versatile vocal talents. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Medama Oyaji in virtually every incarnation of Shigeru Mizuki's beloved series, GeGeGe no Kitarō, throughout his career.
His artistic journey began with Gekidan Tōgei and later Theatre Echo, before he joined Aoni Production, where he was affiliated at the time of his passing. Despite possessing a naturally deep voice, Tanonaka became celebrated for his ability to portray characters with high-pitched tones, showcasing his remarkable range.
In addition to his iconic role in GeGeGe no Kitarō, Tanonaka made significant contributions to various anime series. He was the original voice of Honkan-san in Tensai Bakabon, lent his talents to Mucha in Mazinger Z, and voiced Doppe in Paul’s Miraculous Adventure. His work included memorable characters like Sindbook in Magical Princess Minky Momo, Youaltepuztli in Akuma-kun, and Gara in Dr. Slump & Arale-chan, showcasing his collaboration with renowned creator Akira Toriyama. He also voiced Brass in Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken and Igor in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series.
