Paul Giamatti
Paul Edward Valentine Giamatti (born June 6, 1967) is a prominent American actor known for his diverse range of performances. His impressive career has earned him a Primetime Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and nominations for two Academy Awards as well as a British Academy Film Award.
Giamatti honed his craft at the Yale School of Drama, where he engaged in various theatrical works. He made his Broadway debut in 1995, playing the role of Ezra Chater in Tom Stoppard's play Arcadia. That same year, he appeared as Rev. Donald "Streaky" Bacon in David Hare's Racing Demon. He later returned to the stage in revivals of Chekhov's Three Sisters (1997) and O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh (1999).
His film career took off with his role in Private Parts (1997), followed by notable appearances in My Best Friend's Wedding (1997), Saving Private Ryan (1998), and Man on the Moon (1999). Giamatti received critical acclaim for his leading roles in American Splendor (2003), Sideways (2004), Win Win (2011), and Private Life (2018). He has also been featured in films such as Planet of the Apes (2001), The Illusionist (2006), and 12 Years a Slave (2013), earning Academy Award nominations for his performances in Cinderella Man (2005) and The Holdovers (2023).
On television, Giamatti gained recognition for his portrayal of John Adams in the HBO miniseries (2008), winning both an Emmy and a Golden Globe. He played U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades Jr. in Showtime's Billions from 2016 to 2023 and received Emmy nominations for his roles in Too Big to Fail (2011) and Downton Abbey (2013).
