Susan Bay Nimoy, an influential figure in the entertainment industry, co-founded the Women's Steering Committee of the Director’s Guild of America in 1979 alongside the "Original Six," a collective of pioneering female directors. This initiative aimed to combat gender inequality in Hollywood and enhance opportunities for women in directing roles within film and television.

An active member of the board of directors for the Foundation for National Progress, which publishes Mother Jones magazine, Bay has demonstrated her commitment to advocacy and social change. In 2007, she showcased her directorial talent with the American premiere of Vern Thiessen's solo play, Shakespeare's Will, featuring Jeanmarie Simpson in the role of Anne Hathaway.

Bay’s acting credits include her role in the 2009 film Mother and Child. She is related to prominent figures such as Rabbi John Rosove of Temple Israel of Hollywood and filmmaker Michael Bay.

In her personal life, Bay married actor John Schuck, with whom she had a son, Aaron, before their divorce in 1983. After her marriage to Leonard Nimoy in 1988, the couple made notable philanthropic contributions, including a $100,000 donation to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) for the purchase of Nan Goldin's The Ballad of Sexual Dependency. They also supported significant exhibitions like WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution and contributed $1 million to The Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater at Griffith Observatory. Bay's collaboration with Nimoy extended to modeling for his book, Shekhina, celebrating the feminine aspect of divinity in Judaism. Their partnership lasted until Nimoy's passing in February 2015.
