Lex Goudsmit
Lex Goudsmit (1913–1999) was a celebrated actor of Dutch-Belgian descent, renowned for his dynamic performances on stage and screen. He gained widespread acclaim in 1966 for his portrayal of Tevye in the musical Fiddler on the Roof, a role he passionately embodied over 1,100 times across the Netherlands and London, leaving an indelible mark on audiences.
In addition to his theatrical successes, Goudsmit made significant contributions to Dutch television, portraying a variety of characters that resonated with viewers. He starred in the beloved youth series Q en Q in 1974 and continued to captivate audiences in Thomas en Senior from 1985 to 1988. His role as Grandpa Lex on Sesamstraat, the Dutch adaptation of Sesame Street, became iconic, as he entertained and educated children from 1984 until his passing in 1999.
Beyond his acting career, Goudsmit participated in notable cultural initiatives, including the recording of the poignant song "Shalom from Holland" in 1991. This song, crafted by Simon Hammelburg and Ron Klipstein, was a heartfelt gesture of solidarity with the Israeli people amid the threats of the Gulf War. Goudsmit’s contributions to the arts and society left a lasting legacy, showcasing his talent and commitment to his craft.
