Tanya Streeter
Tanya Streeter, born on February 17, 1972, in the Cayman Islands to Jim and Sandra Dailey, is a celebrated figure in the world of freediving. Growing up with two sisters and a brother, she pursued her education at the prestigious Roedean School in England, later attending Brighton University. After marrying Paul Streeter in England, the couple returned to the Cayman Islands in 1995, where they welcomed their daughter Tilly Annina Andrus Streeter in August 2008 and son Charlie Streeter in 2015. Following the birth of her children, Tanya officially retired from the sport but now resides in Austin, Texas.
Streeter's journey into freediving began at the age of 25, quickly establishing her as a formidable competitor. Her first major achievement came in 1998 when she surpassed Deborah Andollo's Women’s No Limits diving record, reaching a depth of 370 feet (113 m). In March 2000, she was honored with induction into the Women Divers Hall of Fame. Continuing to push boundaries, in 2002, she set a new No Limit world record by diving to 525 feet (160 m) near the Turks and Caicos Islands.
On July 19, 2003, she further cemented her legacy by breaking the men's Variable Weight world record with a dive to 400 feet (122 m). Streeter's influence extends beyond her records; she has been featured in the Animal Planet documentary *Freediver* and presented *Dive Galapagos* and *Shark Therapy* for BBC Two. A sought-after public speaker, she delivered a notable TEDx talk in 2012 and has been commemorated on postage stamps in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
