Tommy Kirk
Thomas Lee Kirk (December 10, 1941 – September 28, 2021) was an American actor renowned for his roles in numerous Walt Disney films, including iconic titles like Old Yeller, The Shaggy Dog, Swiss Family Robinson, The Absent-Minded Professor, and The Misadventures of Merlin Jones. He also starred in several beach party movies during the 1960s. Throughout his career, Kirk often played the romantic lead opposite Annette Funicello and shared the screen with Kevin Corcoran, who portrayed his younger brother, and Fred MacMurray, who played his father.
Kirk’s association with Disney came to an abrupt end when rumors regarding his sexual orientation surfaced. In the years following, he faced significant struggles with drug addiction and depression, leading him to take on a number of low-budget film projects before departing from the acting scene in the mid-1970s. He later transitioned into a more conventional life, running a carpet cleaning business and making sporadic appearances at fan conventions. Tommy Kirk passed away at his residence in Las Vegas, Nevada, in September 2021, at the age of 79. His legacy in film, particularly within the realm of family entertainment, remains cherished by fans and film historians alike.
