He embarked on his artistic journey by studying philosophy before pursuing acting at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, where he earned his degree in 1986. Initially making a name for himself as an actor in various television series, Ali transitioned to directing in the mid-1990s, showcasing his multifaceted talent.

His directorial debut came with the film "بهمو آخر الليل," which he also penned. This work garnered critical acclaim, securing the gold award at the Cairo Radio and Television Festival. Hatem Ali is well-remembered for his direction of numerous iconic television series, including "فارس في المدينة," "مرايا 98," "مرايا 99," "الفصول الأربعة," "الزير سالم," "صلاح الدين الأيوبي," and "التغريبة الفلسطينية." His contributions to cinema include directing three notable films: "العشاق," "سيلينا," and "الليل الطويل."

In addition to his directing and acting endeavors, Ali founded an artistic production company called "صورة," which became a platform for various television projects, further enriching the Arab entertainment landscape. Hatem Ali left an indelible mark on the industry, celebrated for his creative vision and storytelling, until his passing in February 2021.
