Anne Jeffreys
Anne Jeffreys, born Annie Jeffreys Carmichael on January 26, 1923, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, was a multifaceted American actress and singer whose career spanned several decades. A talented soprano, she initially pursued a path in opera, earning a scholarship with the New York Municipal Opera Company where she performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, showcasing her skills in operatic classics such as La bohème and La traviata.
However, her trajectory shifted during her teenage years when she signed with the John Robert Powers agency as a junior model. This new direction led her to the musical review Fun for the Money, which served as a springboard to her debut film role in I Married an Angel (1942), alongside stars Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. Throughout the 1940s, Jeffreys was signed with both RKO and Republic Studios, where she gained recognition for her portrayal of Tess Trueheart in the Dick Tracy film series and appeared in the 1944 musical Step Lively featuring Frank Sinatra.
Her filmography also includes the horror-comedy Zombies on Broadway (1945) and the western Riffraff (1946) with Pat O'Brien. Notably, she played the role of John Dillinger's moll in the 1945 film Dillinger, solidifying her status as a versatile performer. Anne Jeffreys passed away on September 27, 2017, leaving behind a rich legacy in entertainment.
