Edgar Ramírez
Édgar Filiberto Ramírez Arellano, known simply as Édgar Ramírez, was born on March 25, 1977, in Venezuela. He began his academic journey studying communications at the Andrés Bello Catholic University. Initially, Ramírez worked in media and contemplated a career in diplomacy, but everything changed when renowned filmmaker Guillermo Arriaga commended a short film he had created, inspiring him to pursue acting professionally.
Ramírez gained significant recognition for his role as a CIA assassin in the action-packed thriller The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). His remarkable performance as Carlos the Jackal in the 2010 miniseries Carlos earned him the César Award for Most Promising Actor, alongside nominations for both a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for Best Actor. He continued to showcase his versatility in films such as Zero Dark Thirty (2012), where he played a CIA operative, and in the 2016 biopic Hands of Stone, portraying the legendary boxer Roberto Durán.
His portrayal of fashion designer Gianni Versace in the 2018 miniseries The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story garnered him multiple accolades. In 2020, he appeared in a recurring role in HBO's The Undoing. Most recently, in 2022, Ramírez served on the Un Certain Regard jury at the Cannes Film Festival, further solidifying his influence in the film industry.
