Gary Trousdale
Gary A. Trousdale, born on June 8, 1960, is a prominent American film director celebrated for his significant contributions to animated cinema. Trousdale is best known for his collaboration with fellow director Kirk Wise, creating iconic films such as *Beauty and the Beast*, *The Hunchback of Notre Dame*, and *Atlantis: The Lost Empire*.
Initially aspiring to be an architect, Trousdale shifted his focus to animation, earning a degree from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) after three years of study. His career began in 1982 when he worked on storyboarding and various animation projects, including designing restaurant menus and T-shirts.
In 1985, he joined Walt Disney Feature Animation as an effects animator for *The Black Cauldron*. His directorial debut, *Beauty and the Beast*, marked a turning point in his career, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and winning a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award. He followed this success with *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* in 1996 and *Atlantis: The Lost Empire* in 2001.
In 2003, Trousdale transitioned to DreamWorks Animation, contributing to projects like *The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper*, *Shrek the Halls*, and *Scared Shrekless*. His work has left an indelible mark on the animation industry, showcasing his talent for storytelling and visual artistry.
