San Francisco Symphony

The San Francisco Symphony (SFS) is a prestigious American orchestra, established in 1911 and located in the vibrant city of San Francisco, California. Since 1980, the SFS has made its home at the renowned Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall in the Hayes Valley area, enhancing the city’s rich cultural landscape.

The organization is also known for its educational initiatives, including the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, which was created in 1981, and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, founded in 1972. Michael Tilson Thomas has been a pivotal figure in the orchestra's history, serving as music director since 1995. He is set to conclude his tenure in 2020, with the esteemed Esa-Pekka Salonen poised to take over as the next music director.
