Born Artemio Perez Marquez Jr., he served as the mayor of Parañaque from 1995 to 2004, making significant contributions to local governance before transitioning back to his entertainment career.

Marquez's basketball journey began in the early 1980s when he played for Presto Fun Drinks, which later became the Great Taste Coffee Makers. He then joined Gilbey's Gin Tonics, later known as Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, under the mentorship of the legendary Robert Jaworski starting in 1984. He had a short stint with the Hills Bros. Coffee Kings in 1987 before retiring from sports to pursue acting full-time.
