His family emigrated to Syracuse, New York during his childhood and later settled in Los Angeles, California. Carbone pursued his education at Los Angeles State College, after which he ventured to New York City to refine his craft in drama under the tutelage of renowned figures like Harold Clurman and Eva Le Galliene.

Carbone embarked on his professional acting journey with minor roles in various Broadway productions, eventually transitioning to the silver screen.
