Liina Olmaru
Liina Olmaru, also known as Liina-Riin Olmaru, was born on April 11, 1967, in Tallinn, Estonia, into a family of actors, with both parents, Rein and Linda Olmaru (née Kuusmaa), nurturing her artistic inclinations. She completed her secondary education at Rakvere 1st Secondary School in 1985 and pursued her passion for the performing arts by graduating from the Vanemuine theatre teaching studio in Tartu in 1989.
In addition to acting, Olmaru has a deep interest in theology, culminating in her graduation from the Pedagogy Department of the Institute of Theology of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1996.
Her breakthrough in television came in 1995, portraying Virve in the Eesti Televisioon (ETV) series *Wikmani poised*, adapted from Jaan Kross’s novel. She gained further recognition with her role as Piret in the 2006 film *Tusenbröder - Återkomsten* and its subsequent series, *Tusenbröder*, in 2007. Notable performances also include her role as Elfriede Kallaste in the ETV historical mini-series *Tuulepealne maa* in 2008, which depicted pivotal events in Estonia’s early 20th-century history.
Olmaru has made her mark in radio theatre, featuring in notable productions like *Ekke Moor* (2002) and *Tervist, härra Vilde!* (2015). She made her film debut in the 2003 romantic drama *Yantarnye krylya* and appeared in the short film *Öö* in 2007. Married to actor Indrek Sammul since 1998, the couple has three adopted children and continues to reside in Tallinn.
