Gottfried John
Gottfried John (German pronunciation: [ˈjoːn]; 29 August 1942 – 1 September 2014) was a prominent German actor known for his work on stage, in films, and as a voice artist. He had a significant partnership with the acclaimed director Rainer Werner Fassbinder, participating in a variety of his projects from 1975 until Fassbinder's passing in 1982. Notable films from this collaboration include Mother Küsters Goes to Heaven, Despair, The Marriage of Maria Braun, and Berlin Alexanderplatz. John's strikingly slender physique often led him to be cast in villainous roles, making him a recognizable figure in cinema. He is perhaps most famous for portraying the unscrupulous General Arkady Orumov in the 1995 James Bond movie GoldenEye. Additionally, his comedic performance as Julius Caesar in Asterix & Obelix Take On Caesar earned him the Bavarian Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, further showcasing his versatility as an artist.
