Avis-Marie Barnes

Avis-Marie Barnes, a native of New Jersey, grew up in Montclair where her passion for theater blossomed unexpectedly during her freshman year of high school. Encouraged by a classmate who invited her to act in a one-act play, she discovered a profound connection to the stage that would shape her future. Pursuing her newfound passion, Avis enrolled at Howard University, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Fine Arts Department.

After completing her studies, she returned to New Jersey and spent 13 years immersed in the vibrant New York theater scene, taking on various roles in films, soaps, and commercials. In 1992, her career took a significant turn when she attended a seminar in Orlando, Florida, designed to connect aspiring actors with casting directors and talent agencies. Seizing the moment in a region being dubbed “Hollywood East,” Avis relocated to Florida, hoping to secure representation and a SAG card.

As she gained traction in the industry, Avis found success across multiple mediums, including industrials, television, voiceover work, and theater. She also explored her directing talents, further establishing her presence in Florida’s artistic community while never losing her New Jersey roots. Beyond her acting career, Avis founded a business focused on building and maintaining websites, assisting actors with auditions, and teaching audition techniques, helping to nurture the next generation of performers.
