Yorgos Lanthimos
Yorgos Lanthimos (Greek: Γιώργος Λάνθιμος), born on September 23, 1973, is a distinguished Greek filmmaker known for his unique and provocative storytelling style. He has garnered numerous accolades, including a BAFTA Award, a prestigious Golden Lion, and multiple nominations for the Academy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Lanthimos began his artistic journey in experimental theatre before making his mark in cinema with his debut feature, the sex comedy My Best Friend (2001). His breakthrough came with the haunting psychological drama Dogtooth (2009), which not only won the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival but also earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Transitioning to English-language cinema, Lanthimos achieved critical acclaim with the darkly comedic film The Lobster (2015), which resulted in an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
