Tony Iommi
Anthony Frank Iommi, born on February 19, 1948, is a legendary British guitarist renowned for co-founding the iconic heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Serving as the band's guitarist, primary composer, and leader, Iommi remained the sole continuous member for nearly fifty years, contributing to the band's groundbreaking sound and influence in the genre. His exceptional skills earned him a spot as number 25 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."
A pivotal moment in Iommi's life occurred during his teenage years when he lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers in a factory accident. This unfortunate event profoundly influenced his unique playing style, allowing him to develop techniques that would later define heavy metal guitar. Although he briefly departed Black Sabbath, then known as Earth, in 1968 to join Jethro Tull, he returned to the band in 1969 without recording with Tull.
In 2000, Iommi ventured into solo work with his debut album, *Iommi*, followed by *Fused* in 2005, featuring ex-bandmate Glenn Hughes. He also formed Heaven & Hell, which performed Black Sabbath songs until disbanding after the passing of Ronnie James Dio in 2010. In 2011, Iommi shared his experiences through his autobiography, *Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath*, cementing his legacy in rock history.
