Indrek Taalmaa
Indrek Taalmaa, born on July 9, 1967, in Viljandi, Estonia, is a versatile actor and theatre director known for his contributions to stage, television, and film. His artistic journey began in the early 1990s, following his graduation from Viljandi Secondary School No. 4 in 1985. He enrolled in the Drama School of the Tallinn State Conservatory, now the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, but his studies were interrupted by conscription into the Soviet Army, leading to a two-year deployment in Afghanistan during the Soviet–Afghan War.
Taalmaa gained prominence with his portrayal of Carl Danhammer in the 2005 television film "August 1991," directed by Ilmar Raag, which depicted the pivotal moments of Estonia's independence struggle. The following year, he took on the role of Konstantin Päts in the historical mini-series "Tuulepealne maa." His film career took off with the 1997 comedy "Minu Leninid," and he continued to make his mark in notable productions like "Libahundi needus" (2005) and "Meeletu" (2006).
In 2008, he portrayed President Konstantin Päts in "Taarka," a film about the life of Seto folk singer Hilana Taarka. Taalmaa's filmography includes over thirty short and feature films, with recent appearances in "Jahihooaeg" (2021) and "Soo" (2022). Notably, he lent his voice to Pumbaa in the Estonian version of Disney's "The Lion King" in 2012. Taalmaa is in a committed relationship with actress Karin Tammaru, and they share two sons while residing in Tallinn.
