Elizabeth "Betsy" Russell, born on September 6, 1963, is a prominent American actress celebrated for her memorable performances in films such as Private School (1983) and Tomboy (1985), as well as her significant role as Jill Tuck in the Saw movie franchise from 2006 to 2010.
Hailing from San Diego, California, Betsy is the daughter of Constance (née Lerner) and Richard Lion Russell, a stock analyst, and the granddaughter of the esteemed journalist and educator Max Lerner. With Jewish roots from both her father and maternal grandfather, Betsy's passion for acting ignited at the tender age of eight, leading her to participate in school plays. During her high school years, she was featured in a local Pepsi commercial. After graduating from Mission Bay High School in 1981, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her acting ambitions and enrolled in acting classes, eventually securing her first role.
Russell debuted in the 1982 film Let's Do It! and soon appeared in popular TV shows like T.J. Hooker and Family Ties. Her breakthrough came with the role of Jordan Leigh-Jensen in Private School. Despite declining an audition for the film Silverado, Betsy has reflected on her career path with optimism, noting that every decision shapes one's journey. Throughout the '80s, she starred in various B-movies and made guest appearances on notable series including The A-Team and Murder, She Wrote.
Betsy currently resides in Malibu, California. She was married to actor Vincent Van Patten from May 27, 1989, until their divorce in 2001, and they share two sons. After a short hiatus from acting, she returned to the screen in the Saw series, solidifying her status in the horror genre.
