Leslie Feist

Leslie Feist, born on February 13, 1976, in Amherst, Nova Scotia, is a prominent Canadian-American indie pop singer-songwriter and guitarist, widely recognized by her stage name, Feist. She is not only celebrated for her solo work but also for her contributions to the indie rock collective Broken Social Scene.

Feist embarked on her solo journey in 1999 with her debut album, *Monarch*. However, it was her follow-up albums, *Let It Die* (2004) and *The Reminder* (2007), that truly catapulted her into the spotlight, achieving both critical acclaim and commercial success, with *The Reminder* selling over 2.5 million copies. This album earned her four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, and solidified her reputation in the music industry. Over her career, Feist has garnered 11 Juno Awards, including two for Artist of the Year. Her fourth studio effort, *Metals*, was released in 2011, followed by a collaboration with the metal band Mastodon in 2012, which included an innovative interactive music video.

Feist's musical lineage is rooted in her artistic family; her father, Harold Feist, was an abstract expressionist painter, while her mother, Lyn, studied ceramics. Feist's early musical experiences began in Calgary, where she formed a punk band called Placebo at the age of 15, winning a local Battle of the Bands competition. Today, she is respected not only for her musical talents but also for her unique contributions to the arts, with six studio albums to her name as of 2023.
