Svetlana Zakharova
Svetlana Zakharova, a distinguished People’s Artist of Russia and a recipient of the Russian State Prize, stands out as a prima ballerina with the Bolshoi Theatre and an étoile at La Scala. Born in Lutsk, Ukraine, she began her ballet journey at the tender age of 10 by enrolling in the Kiev Choreography School. Under the tutelage of Valeria Sulegina for six years, she showcased her talent at the prestigious “Vaganova Prix” in Saint Petersburg, where she made her mark as the youngest participant and secured the second prize at just 15 years old.
Following this achievement, Zakharova was invited to the illustrious Vaganova Ballet Academy, where she made history by advancing directly to the graduating class, bypassing the second year. Her remarkable talent quickly garnered attention, leading to her debut as a soloist in “Don Quixote” at the Mariinsky Theatre. Graduating from the academy at 17, she was swiftly integrated into the esteemed Mariinsky Ballet company.
Under the mentorship of the celebrated Olga Moiseeva, Zakharova performed significant roles, including Maria in “The Fountain of Bakhchisarai” and Gulnara in “Le Corsaire.” Her breathtaking artistry and technical prowess have cemented her status as a luminary in the world of ballet, captivating audiences and critics alike throughout her illustrious career.
