Martin Tanaka
Martin Hisao Tanaka, known in the wrestling world as Duke Keomuka, was an esteemed American professional wrestler and the father of wrestler Pat Tanaka and referee Jimmy Tanaka. Born to Japanese American parents, Tanaka faced significant challenges during World War II, as he was interned at the Manzanar relocation center in California.
In the 1950s, Keomuka distinguished himself by forming a successful tag team with Hiro Matsuda, showcasing his talent and charisma. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he emerged as a prominent figure in the wrestling scene, particularly in Texas, before ultimately making Florida his home base for wrestling.
Tanaka's contributions to the sport left a lasting legacy, influencing the next generation of wrestlers. Sadly, he passed away on June 30, 1991, at the age of 70. His death came just one day before a significant match for his son Pat, who was set to team up with Paul Diamond (known as Kato of the Orient Express) against Haku and The Barbarian. In a poignant turn of events, Pat was unable to participate due to his father's passing, leading his manager, Mr. Fuji, to step in as his replacement. Martin Tanaka's impact on wrestling continues to be remembered and honored by fans and family alike.
