Petr Kostka
Petr Kostka, renowned Czech actor, was born in Říčany near Prague into a family with deep theatrical roots dating back to the 19th century. His father, Jiří Kostka, was also a notable actor. After completing his secondary education at a business school, Petr successfully passed entrance exams to the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) in 1957, although he left before graduating to join the Prague Municipal Theatres in 1960. His breakthrough came with the film "VYŠŠÍ PRINCIP," where he portrayed a student executed under martial law, earning him acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
Over the decades, Kostka became one of the most sought-after and beloved actors in the Czech film industry. His extensive repertoire included both leading and supporting roles in a wide range of genres. Notable performances featured him as the peasant Petr in Karel Zeman's "BLÁZNOVA KRONIKA," a nobleman in the detective series "ZLOČIN NA ZLENICÍCH HRADĚ," and a dual role as space pilots in the sci-fi film "ZÍTRA VSTANU A OPAŘÍM SE ČAJEM."
In the 1980s, while film opportunities waned, Kostka found significant success in television, starring in series like "SANITKA," "SYNOVÉ A DCERY JAKUBA SKLÁŘE," and "MY HOLKY Z MĚSTEČKA." His theatrical career flourished as well, with significant roles at the National Theatre and later the Vinohrady Theatre, where he performed in acclaimed productions such as "Hamlet" and "Král se baví." In 2003, he received the prestigious Thálie Theatre Award.
