Barbara Boxer
Barbara Sue Boxer (née Levy), born on November 11, 1940, is a notable American politician and lobbyist who represented California in the United States Senate from 1993 until 2017. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the U.S. representative for California's 6th congressional district from 1983 to 1993.
Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Boxer graduated from George W. Wingate High School before earning her degree from Brooklyn College. She embarked on a career as a stockbroker for several years before relocating to California with her husband. In the 1970s, she transitioned into journalism with the Pacific Sun and took on the role of aide to U.S. Representative John L. Burton. Boxer made history by serving six years on the Marin County Board of Supervisors, where she was the first woman to hold the position of president. Her 1982 campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives, marked by the slogan "Barbara Boxer Gives a Damn," was successful.
In 1992, Boxer was elected to the U.S. Senate, and during her 2004 re-election campaign, she garnered an impressive 6.96 million votes, breaking records for Senate elections. Alongside Dianne Feinstein, she made history as one of the first female pairs of U.S. Senators from the same state. Throughout her career, Boxer held significant roles, including ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee and vice chair of the Select Committee on Ethics, known for her staunch liberal views.
