Joanne Heywood is a prominent English television actress, widely recognized for her portrayal of Jessica Lovelock in the beloved series Grace & Favour, a continuation of the classic sitcom Are You Being Served?
A native of York, Heywood received her education in various locations including York, Guildford, and even Sydney, Australia. She pursued her passion for the performing arts at the Guildford School of Acting, graduating with a focus on musical theatre. Her professional career took off in 1985 when she debuted in the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at York's Theatre Royal, where she became a staple over the next ten years, frequently starring as the principal boy. During this period, she also showcased her talents in regional productions of well-known musicals such as Annie, Gypsy, and Camelot, as well as participating in the world premieres of Scrooge: The Musical and the stage adaptation of High Society.
Heywood's television career began with her role as Dilys in the BBC series First of the Summer Wine. She made notable appearances in The New Statesman and The Brittas Empire in 1991. In addition to her memorable role in Grace & Favour, she played Sally Bennett in the film Stanley's Dragon and had guest roles in popular shows such as Knightmare, Next of Kin, and Coronation Street.
