In 1997, Cooley ventured into film and television, quickly gaining attention for his diverse roles. Notably, in 1998, he showcased his versatility by portraying three distinct villainous characters in the iconic series *Xena: Warrior Princess*. Among these memorable performances, he became particularly renowned for a scene famously dubbed the "Drool scene," where he played a victim of Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) in the episode "In Sickness and In Hell."

His talent continued to shine in 2005 when he took on the role of nurse Liam Todd in New Zealand's popular medical soap *Shortland Street*, where he served as a supportive figure to Dr. Chris Warner's twin sister, Amanda Warner (Marissa Stott).
