Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Kate Hudson, born on September 12, 1981, and affectionately known as J.Hud, is a multifaceted American singer, actress, and talk show host. She gained national recognition in 2004 as a contestant on the third season of American Idol, finishing in seventh place. Hudson made her cinematic debut in the acclaimed film Dreamgirls (2006), where she portrayed Effie White, a performance that earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. This achievement made her the youngest African-American to receive an Oscar in a competitive acting category.
In 2008, Hudson released her self-titled debut album under Arista Records, which achieved Gold certification in both the US and the UK and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Her follow-up albums, I Remember Me (2011) and JHUD (2014), also found success, with the former being certified Gold and both landing within the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart.
Hudson's impressive acting repertoire includes notable films such as Sex and the City (2008), The Secret Life of Bees (2008), Winnie Mandela (2011), Black Nativity (2013), Sing (2016), Cats (2019), and Respect (2021). On television, she has appeared in Smash (2012), Empire (2015), and Confirmation (2016). Additionally, Hudson made her Broadway debut in the musical The Color Purple and served as a coach on both the UK and US versions of The Voice from 2017 to 2019, making history as the first female coach to win the UK edition.
