In 2008, he was chosen to participate in the prestigious Résidence of the Cinéfondation at the Cannes Film Festival, where he crafted the screenplay for his debut feature film, Policeman. Released in 2011, the film delves into the life of Yaron, a member of an Israeli anti-terrorism unit whose path crosses with a group of radical leftists.

Lapid's next major work, The Kindergarten Teacher, premiered in a special screening during the 2014 Cannes International Critics' Week. This poignant film stars Sarit Larry as Nira, an educator who becomes obsessed with a gifted five-year-old boy and is determined to nurture his extraordinary talent for poetry, regardless of the consequences.
