Mickey Rourke
Philip Andre "Mickey" Rourke Jr. (born September 16, 1952) is an acclaimed American actor and former professional boxer, known for his dynamic presence in drama, action, and thriller genres.
Rourke first gained attention in the early 1980s, showcasing his talent in supporting roles in films like Body Heat (1981) and Diner (1982). His star began to rise with leading performances in notable films such as Rumble Fish (1983) as The Motorcycle Boy, The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984) as Charlie Moran, and 9½ Weeks (1986) as John Gray. His portrayal in the biopic Barfly and the horror mystery Angel Heart (both released in 1987) earned him widespread acclaim. However, after a series of less successful projects in the early 1990s, Rourke transitioned to boxing, a sport he had trained for earlier in life.
After retiring from boxing in 1994, Rourke made a notable return to acting, featuring in films like The Rainmaker (1997), Buffalo '66 (1998), and Man on Fire (2004). His resurgence in Hollywood was marked by a lead role in the neo-noir action film Sin City (2005), which garnered him several awards. Rourke's comeback peaked with his performance as Randy 'The Ram' Robinson in The Wrestler (2008), earning him a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Academy Award nomination. He later appeared in successful titles like Iron Man 2 and The Expendables (both 2010), before focusing on independent projects.
