Élie Semoun, born Élie Semhoun on October 16, 1963, is a multifaceted French entertainer known for his work as a comedian, actor, director, writer, and singer. Hailing from a Sephardic Jewish family with roots in Morocco and Algeria, Semoun showcased his creative talents early, writing two collections of poetry and two plays by age 17.

His television career commenced in 1988 with appearances on TF1's Vivement lundi!, where he captivated audiences with a humorous character on roller skates. In 1990, Semoun partnered with Dieudonné M'bala M'bala, launching a series of provocative skits that tackled sensitive issues like racism and poverty, often highlighting their contrasting backgrounds.

The duo gained significant fame through their performances, particularly after their breakout show in 1991 at Café de la Gare and subsequent appearances on Emission Impossible, hosted by fellow comedian Arthur. However, their partnership dissolved in 1997 due to artistic and financial disagreements, with Semoun feeling increasingly disillusioned by Dieudonné’s direction and controversies.

Following the split, Semoun carved his path with projects like Petites Annonces d'Élie, inspired by real-life classified ads. He later returned to solo performances and released a French music album in 2003. Throughout the years, Semoun's relationship with Dieudonné remained complex, marked by periods of tension and reconciliation, ultimately leading him to declare in 2012 that they had become fundamentally different individuals.
