Born in Bergisch Gladbach, West Germany, Klum is the daughter of a hairdresser and a cosmetics executive. Her journey into modeling began when a friend encouraged her to enter a national contest known as "Model 92." Out of 25,000 hopefuls, she was crowned the winner on April 29, 1992, leading to a lucrative modeling contract with Metropolitan Models in New York valued at $300,000.
Klum made history as the first German model to grace the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 1998 and became a renowned Victoria's Secret Angel. Her transition to television was equally successful; she has served as the host and judge on the German version of Next Topmodel and the acclaimed reality series Project Runway.
