Jimmy Hanley
Jimmy Hanley (22 October 1918 – 13 January 1970) was a distinguished British actor known for his engaging performances on both stage and screen. Hailing from Norwich, Norfolk, Hanley embarked on his acting journey as a child, quickly gaining recognition for his roles in juvenile parts. He was nurtured within the Rank Organisation's studio system during his formative years, eventually becoming a beloved "boy-next-door" figure in British cinema.
His early education at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts set the stage for a successful career, and he made a memorable stage debut at the renowned London Palladium, portraying John Darling in the classic production of Peter Pan.
In addition to his film work, Hanley ventured into television, where he became the host of the ITV series Jim's Inn. This innovative show cleverly intertwined commercial advertising with a narrative akin to a soap opera, showcasing his versatility as a performer.
Hanley was married twice; his first marriage to actress Dinah Sheridan lasted from 1942 to 1952 and produced three children, including actress Jenny Hanley and Conservative politician Sir Jeremy Hanley. His second marriage to Margaret Avery from 1955 until his passing in 1970 yielded three daughters: Jane, Sarah, and Katy.
Jimmy Hanley's life was tragically cut short by cancer at the age of 51 in Leatherhead, Surrey, leaving behind a legacy of cherished performances.
