Meiling Melançon
Meiling Melançon, born on March 3, 1980, is an accomplished American actress, screenwriter, and former fashion model, also recognized by her name Mei Melançon (明依). With a dynamic career spanning various mediums, she has showcased her talents in major feature films, independent cinema, television series, and over a hundred commercials. Since 2014, she has increasingly focused on behind-the-scenes roles, including screenwriting and producing.
Raised primarily in Japan, Hong Kong, and Korea, Melançon possesses a rich cultural heritage, being of French, Chinese, and Japanese descent. Her upbringing was marked by frequent travels across Asia and Europe, and her mother, of French descent, introduced her to music at an early age, teaching her to play the guitar. As a child, she was part of a band called Blossoms. In an interview with Eric Nakamura from Giant Robot, she recounted her nontraditional and strict upbringing, which restricted her exposure to most films and contemporary music due to religious beliefs.
Melançon began her acting career in 2003, transitioning from a successful modeling career with Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. She has appeared in notable productions, including her role as Masako Yamashiro in "Legends of Tomorrow," Jamie Chen in "The L Word," and Psylocke in "X-Men: The Last Stand." Her short film "Keye Luke," where she portrayed Lotus Long, premiered at the 2012 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and was featured as the Closing Night Film at the 2013 Seattle Asian American Film Festival. She also played key roles in films like "Shrink" and "Pathology," showcasing her versatility as an actress.
