Sylvain Tesson
Sylvain Tesson, born on April 26, 1972, in Paris, is a distinguished French author and adventurer renowned for his extraordinary journeys that inspire his literary works. The son of journalist Philippe Tesson and cultural figure Marie-Claude Tesson, Sylvain grew up surrounded by creative influences alongside his sisters, actress Stéphanie and art journalist Daphné.
With a background in geography and geopolitics, Tesson's adventurous spirit first emerged in 1991 with a motorcycle expedition across central Iceland, followed by an exploration of Borneo's caves. His extensive global travels included a two-year bicycle journey around the world with childhood friend Alexandre Poussin, chronicled in his debut book, *On a roulé sur la terre* (1996), which earned him the youth IGN prize.
In 1997, Tesson trekked 5,000 kilometers through the Himalayas with Poussin, leading to their collaborative work, *La Marche dans le ciel* (1998). His further adventures included horseback expeditions across Central Asia and archaeological work in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Tesson's notable works include *The Consolations of the Forest* (2011), recounting his six-month solitary retreat in a Siberian cabin, which garnered the Dolman Best Travel Book Award in 2014. He also received the Prix Renaudot for *The Art of Patience* (2019), detailing his quest for snow leopards in Tibet. His experiences have been adapted into a film, *In the Forests of Siberia* (2016), and he has led the NGO La Guilde Européenne du Raid from 2011 to 2018.
