He served Colorado's sixth congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999 to 2009 as a member of the Republican Party. Notably, Tancredo sought the presidency in the 2008 election, focusing his campaign on critical issues such as illegal immigration and national security. He later withdrew from the race to support Mitt Romney's bid for the nomination.
