Evgeny Tsyganov
Yevgeny Eduardovich Tsyganov (Russian: Евгений Эдуардович Цыганов), born on March 15, 1979, in Moscow, is a distinguished Russian actor, director, screenwriter, and composer known for his contributions to both stage and film. Growing up in a family of Moscow Research Institute employees, he displayed musical talent early on, graduating from music school with a focus on piano.
At just nine years old, Tsyganov began his acting career at the renowned Taganka Theatre, where he took on various roles in productions aimed at younger audiences. Between 1993 and 1997, he performed with the youth rock band A.S., later forming another band, Grenki, which released an album and enjoyed a revival in 2009 after initially disbanding in 2004.
Tsyganov briefly studied at the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute before shifting his focus to film direction at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, graduating in 2001. His collaboration with esteemed director Pyotr Fomenko at Fomenko Studio Theatre further shaped his career.
His film debut came with the title role in Yuri Grymov's *Collector* (2001), which set the stage for a successful acting career in Russian cinema. He garnered acclaim for his performance in *Let’s Make Love*, earning a prize at the Kinotavr film festival in 2002. Tsyganov also starred in *Mermaid* (2007), which was Russia's submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, marking a significant moment in his career.
