Vyjayanthimala

Vyjayanthimala Bali, born on August 13, 1933, in a Tamil-speaking family, is a renowned Indian dancer, former actress, and distinguished parliamentarian. The daughter of celebrated actress and dancer Vasundhara Devi, Vyjayanthimala showcased her extraordinary talent at an early age, performing a dance before the Pope at just seven years old. This pivotal moment ignited her passion for cinema, and she rose to prominence as one of the highest-paid actresses in India during the 1950s and 1960s.

Throughout her illustrious career, Vyjayanthimala received numerous accolades, including five Filmfare Awards and two BFJA Awards. She was honored with the Padma Shri and the Padma Vibhushan, two of the highest civilian honors awarded by the Government of India, underscoring her contributions to the arts.

Her memorable dance performances, including the iconic numbers 'Hothon Pe Aisi Baat Main Dabake Chali Aai...' and 'Main Ka Karu Ram Mujhey Buddha Mil Gaya,' remain beloved classics. Notably, she broke new ground in Indian cinema with her daring appearance in a red swimsuit in the film 'Sangam,' paving the way for future South Indian actresses like Hema Malini and Sridevi to enter Bollywood.

Following the death of her husband, Vyjayanthimala stepped away from the film industry and now lives in Chennai with her son, who is pursuing an acting career. In 2011, she celebrated the arrival of her grandchild, adding a new chapter to her life.
